Man of the Match, Stephan Simpson
By Sam Stafford

Wednesday’s game proved to be a fantastic first Match of the Week! The sun shone all afternoon and that autumn weather kindly chose not to make an appearance.

Our main focus of the day was the men’s first team football match against Liverpool. We spoke to Leeds Met football coach, John Hall, before the match and he was confident that the team would play well and he wasn’t wrong. Our boys put on a brilliant show and continuing on from their Varsity success, claimed a 3-1 victory. Post match we had a chat to captain Liam Smith, and he assured us that he would be out celebrating the win that night with the rest of his team. Man of the Match went to Stephan Simpson, who scored a wonderful second goal for the Met side. To finish off the afternoon we got some of the players to attempt the cross bar challenge… Check out our MOTW video on Monday to see how they did!

Elsewhere, we heard loud celebrations while watching the game on the top pitch, as the men’s second team football match also had a great ending with a 4-2 win over our Leeds Uni rivals. The hockey results were not as we’d hoped, with both the men and womens’ teams losing at home. However, all three netball matches were won, with the first team finishing with a great result of 67-24.

Overall it was a successful day and spectators warmed up by the pitch with some of our free soup! Don’t forget, next week’s Match of the Week is women’s lacrosse on the 3G pitch at 3pm. If it is anything like the afternoon we had yesterday, you’ll be in for a treat.
