On May the 26th 2012, the Slam Dunk festival hits Leeds with a tremendous line up including Taking Back Sunday, The Blackout, Architects and While She Sleeps.
The headliners for the Slam Dunk festival will be Taking Back Sunday, a great band for anyone who likes good music without getting too heavy. The band have been together since around 1999 and formed in Amityville, NY. They have plenty of experience to share with us. With songs such as ‘Make Damn Sure’, ‘Liar’ and ‘This is all Now’, it’s difficult to fault.
Another amazing band leading us at Slam Dunk, The Black Out. Ranging from more of a pop-punk feel such as ‘Higher and higher’ to the occasional heavier songs such as ‘Were going to Hell…’. I’d consider these a great crowd pleasing band and would definitely advise people to see these live. They formed in Wales in 2003, ‘out of boredom’, brilliant.
Have a listen to my personal favourite, ‘I don’t care’.
In 2004 in Brighton, the Architects were formed. The metal band will be gracing the stages of Slam Dunk for us in Leeds, giving us great songs such as ’Day in, day out’, ‘These colours don’t run’ and ‘Early grave’. The Architects are quite a heavy band to listen to, however if you do not like heavy music but are willing to give them a try, then listen to ‘Heartburn’, a much softer song and quite an easy listen.
While She Sleeps are a metal band formed in Sheffield in 2006, who consist of Lawrence Taylor on lead vocals, Matt Welsh on lead guitar and Backing vocals, Adam Savage on drums, Aaran Mckenzie on bass and Sean long on rhythm guitar. Whilst the band have the metal/heavy riffs, they also have a very punk style energy.
The band recorded there debut extended play themselves titled ‘the north stands for nothing’, soon after it was given away for free in the Metal Hammer magazine . There Debut album is due out mid- spring which is still untitled . Their first single was released late 2011 titled ‘Be(LIE)Ve’ which recieved an amazing reception in the rock music industry. There crowd pleasing songs consist of ‘Crows’ and ‘Hearts aside our horses’.
So if you like metal riffs on guitars and hard hitting drums with a pop punk energy then go check them out!
Other bands at the Slam Dunk festival that are worth checking out are, No Trigger who play ‘Earthtones’, For the Fallen dreams who play ‘The big empty’, Lower than Atlantis who play ‘Deadliest catch’ and Cancer Bats who play ‘Sabotage’, also if you like Cancer Bats, you can see them again in August at the Leeds and Reading Festivals.
For tickets to the Slam Dunk festival you can get them from ticket websites such as www.lunatickets.co.uk, they cost £32.50 or £36 for after party entry as well, which ever tickets you decide to get, it will be well worth it.
