Blue Rinse presents… Fashion in Music: Grunge

Blue Rinse and The Met Online have come together, to bring you shoots inspired by some of the most iconic eras, genres and artists in music. Read about the musical origins of these trends and see how you can recreate these looks for yourself.

Grunge fashion in the 90’s was lead by the poverty and apathy of struggling post-punk musicians. Believing music to be more important than style, grunge cohorts were often shabby and unclean in appearance, clothes were only ever borrowed or bought very cheaply… however through their complete uncaring attitude, they inadvertently managed to create a style revolution, influences of which are still around 20 years later. Long hair, baggy clothes and layering were traits of the grunge movement.

Bands of the time which lead this trend were, Nirvana, Hole, Babes in Toyland, Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains, check out these videos…
